True North

Something in you already knows.

Step away from the noise. Reconnect with the living world. Listen to what's been there all along.

A forest sanctuary and retreat space in Cedarpines Park, California, in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Find Your Way

The Land

A mountain retreat in Southern California, surrounded by towering pines, oaks, and the quiet of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Nestled near the Valley of Enchantment and the Pillars of God, True North is a place to step away from the pace of modern life....

The songs of birds welcoming the dawn, the fragrance of the forest, the crisp mountain air, and the quiet beneath a canopy of stars create a rhythm that modern life rarely allows.

Here, nature is more than scenery. It becomes part of the experience.

Space for the heart to breathe. Space for the mind to listen. Space for something deeper to emerge.

Come to the Land

The Story

I spent my career helping build and test complex spacecraft, including NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, designed to explore the universe beyond us. Alongside engineering, I've spent years as a filmmaker documenting people who care deeply about making something with the patience, skill, and devotion that turn ambitious ideas into something real.

But somewhere along the way, I realized the explorer's mindset could be turned inward. The same curiosity that had taken me toward distant worlds could also be used to examine the one much closer to home — my own patterns, wounds, relationships, and sense of connection.

From A Perfect Vintage winemakers working with the unpredictable forces of nature to the engineers, scientists, and technicians who brought Webb to life, my work has continually brought me back to the same question:

What becomes possible when we give ourselves fully to something that matters?

True North was created as an exploration of that question—a place where science and story, craftsmanship and nature, preparation and exploration, individual growth and human connection can come together.

Every trail we cut, every foundation we build, and every person we bring together is an act of remembering what we forgot we knew.

Because becoming our better selves isn't necessarily about becoming someone new.

Sometimes it is about uncovering what was there all along.

When Something Feels Off

Sometimes everything looks fine from the outside, yet something inside knows there is more.

Modern life constantly pulls our attention outward. Work, technology, consumption, noise, and the pace of everyday life can make it difficult to hear the quieter signals within.

Many of us have already begun the work. We may have explored therapy, recovery, spirituality, personal growth, or simply spent years trying to understand why we keep returning to the same patterns.

And sometimes we sense that there is another layer waiting beneath it all.

Create Space to Listen

Healing isn't always about finding another answer. Sometimes it begins by creating enough space to hear the answer that is already within.

True North exists to create that space.

Our Philosophy

We believe every person carries an inner compass—a True North— that can become obscured by fear, conditioning, old wounds, distraction, and the relentless pace of modern life.

Reconnection happens through relationship: relationship with ourselves, with other people, and with the living world around us.

True North brings these together through nature, intentional community, personal exploration, and transformational experiences.

We aren't here to tell you what your truth is. We're creating a place where you can listen deeply enough to discover it for yourself.

Guided Journeys

Step away. Listen deeply.

Sometimes the next step isn't another answer. It's creating enough space to hear the answers already within you.

True North offers intentional, guided experiences for those ready to step away from familiar patterns, reconnect with nature, and explore what lies beneath the surface.

Every journey begins with a conversation, an opportunity to talk, ask questions, and see whether True North is the right place for your next step.

Preparing for a Transformational Journey

Meaningful transformation begins before the experience itself.

The Waypoints

True North is not a destination you arrive at all at once. It is a journey made one step at a time.

Our Southern California Nature-Based Retreat Experiences are organized around a series of Waypoints and shared experiences designed to connect people with the land, with one each other and with the work of personal transformation.

FOUNDERS

Lay the Groundwork - January 2026

The beginning. We came to the land to establish the foundation for what True North could become.

THE CLEARING

Make Space - August 2026

Clearing what stands in the way. Opening paths, creating space, and preparing the land—and ourselves—for what comes next.

THE ASCENT

Rise - September 26th 2026

A movement upward. Leaving old ground behind and beginning the climb toward a wider perspective.

THE CROSSING

Move Beyond - October 11th 2026

Every meaningful journey eventually asks us to cross a threshold—to leave what is familiar and step into what lies beyond it.

THE SUMMIT

See Clearly

Reaching a place where the view changes. From higher ground, what once seemed complicated can sometimes become clear.

THE RETURN

Bring It Home

The journey isn't complete when we leave the mountain. Transformation becomes meaningful when we bring what we've learned back into our everyday lives.

Keep the Journey Going

Every journey begins with a single step. Some lead inward. Some lead into the forest. Some lead toward other people.

Wherever you are on the path, there is a place for you at True North.
